Rui M. A. Domingues
International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), Braga, Portugal
Rui Domingues, member of TENET, has been awarded with a European Research Council Consolidator Grant (FORTIFy) to develop nanoswitch-based mechanobiology tools for controlling and probing cellular responses, effective from May 2025.
More details are available on the official European Commission website and on the dedicated page from the INL Institute.
The project FORTIFy opens new possibilities for treating tendinopathy and related disorders. It will last until April 2030.
Good luck for this exciting project, Rui!
Short bio
Rui M. A. Domingues is a Research Group Leader at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), Portugal, where he leads an interdisciplinary research program at the interface of nanotechnology, biomaterials, biofabrication, and microphysiological systems. Trained as a chemist, he obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering in 2012 from the University of Aveiro. He subsequently carried out postdoctoral research at the 3B’s Research Group, University of Minho (Portugal), and was a visiting researcher at the University of Texas at Austin (USA).
Rui’s research focuses on functional and nanostructured biomaterials for tendon regeneration and the development of advanced multicellular in vitro models. His pioneering contributions to abiotic molecular recognition in regenerative medicine were recognized with the highly competitive FCT Individual Stimulus Award (CEEC, 2020), supporting the consolidation of his work on synthetic ligand-guided modulation of cell fate.
